Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute

Welcome to the home of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Marine Enhancement Center!

Mission: Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution is dedicated to exploring the world's oceans, integrating the science and technology of the sea with the needs of humankind.

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute has over 35 years of aquaculture experience which we will put to good use in our work with the FMFEI. We currently explore many areas of aqualculture with an emphasis on projects that potentially have commercial application.  We also wish to participate in the education of future fishery biologists and managers.

Our stock enhancement goals include:

  • Develop Prototype Recirculating Production Units for Phase 1 to Phase 3
  • Test prototypes
  • Density studies
  • Feeding studies
  • Economic studies

Our outreach and education goals include:

  • Demonstrate to the public the impact of Aqualculture on commerce
  • Share the findings of our studies with the Strategic Partners of the FMFEI and the public so we can ensure our stock's genetic integrity
  • Provide input on the construction of intensive re-circulating aquaculture systems across the Sate.
