Port Manatee Stock Enhancement Research Facility

Mission: Through effective research and technical knowledge, we provide timely information and guidance to protect, conserve, manage and enhance Florida's marine resources.

The Port Manatee Marine Enhancement Center will serve as the hub for marine stock enhancement by producing red drum, spotted sea trout, and other species to various release sizes to benefit marine recreational fishing in Tampa Bay and west central Florida. This facility will work cooperatively with other network facilities within the Florida Marine Fishery Enhancement Initiative to advance the science of stock enhancement and coordinate fish and aquatic plant restoration in concert with FWC fishery management plans. Aquaculture displays, fishing access, and interpretative wetlands will provide opportunities to engage the public in marine resource conservation.

Our habitat enhancement goals include:

  • South Florida ecosystem restoration
  • Shoreline restoration
  • Exotics removal

Our stock ehancement goals include:

  • Work with other network partners to ensure that Florida sportfishing is well stocked

Our outreach/education goals include:

  • Provide tours to the Center's visitors
  • Educate the public about the necesity for habitat and stock enhancement
